9th October celebrates World Post Day but what is it actually all about? In essence it’s a day to remind, celebrate and educate of how countries across the world came to an agreement about postal services and how mail is processed.
World Post Day marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union which was established in 1874. The Universal Postal Union is agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies with member nations and the Worldwide postal system.
If you think about it, it’s quite fantastic that you can simply pop an envelope with an address and stamp into a postbox here in the UK and it can reach a recipient almost anywhere across the world, travelling through our Royal Mail postal service, across the ocean and into the postal network of another country, to eventually be delivered to the doorstep of your long distance friend!
So here’s a shout out to all the postal workers across the world from All Colour Envelopes! #WorldPostDay
